Asymmetric Collimating Unit

The asymmetric collimating unit with cylindrical lenses is an addition to the D50 series of prealigned external optics. The fiber interfaces, exit interface and water-cooling for high power performance are the same as in the standard D50 collimating units.

In order to change the aspect ratio of the beam; two plano-convex cylindrical lenses with different focal lengths are mounted orthogonally. Similarly to the D50 series they are prealigned to be at a distance equal to the effective focal length (EFL) from the fiber end plane. Square-formed beam shapes are transformed into rectangular-formed beam shapes, while spherical beams are transformed into elliptical beams.

All standard and z-adjustable focusing units in the External Optics D50 product range are compatible with the asymmetrical collimating units. This choice of focusing lengths provides flexibility in magnification and working distances of the processing head.
